i) Global Food Safety Initiative

This is one of the food safety certification you can go for. It means Global Food Safety Initiative. It is a food safety standard that operates globally and is retail-driven. Your suppliers need to have procedures and policies to address various aspects of food safety. This includes employee training, prerequisite programs, supply chain verification and HACCP system. The certification program is very relevant in cutting down the quantity of audits, after the supplier attains certification. It is relevant because certain retail customers may see it as a condition to run a business. Employees are to be trained in the schemes of GFSI. There are many firms that make standards that are recognisable like the Safety Quality Food Initiative and British Retail Consortium Certification and training is given on managing the system. American Society for Quality Certified (HACCP)

The exam covers Quality Assurance & Control (17%), regulatory (10%), food microbiology (9%) and food safety (9%). Even though regulation does not regulate this, it appears in various job positions and is a respected credential with proper recognition in the industry. It cost $550 to apply for IFT members and $750 for non-members.

FSPA Certification in Preventive Controls

This is another type of certification  you can go for it. It requires:

  • determination of valid extra preventive controls and reanalysis, and the role it plays in the food safety system, within a line frame of more than 90 calendar days.

Reanalyzing of the safety plan

  • Document written to show corrective actions and monitoring reviews in a time of more than 7 days.
  • Records review

Determination of whether there is validation requirement or not.

  • Document written to show validation in a timeframe of more than 90 calendar days.
  • Validation for preventive controls
  • Preparing the food safety plan for food safety. The person must complete training on preventive controls or through working experience. It costs from $400 to $800 for 2.5 day training with no exam.
